" Sunlight at Pantheon " Rome
The composition may be familiar as I have painted this scene before but in a larger size.
This exercise was painted on 11" x 15" Arches 140lb paper. Sometimes painting down size can assist in a more fluid appearance, but fiddling can be a temptation. I hope you like this one.

What a wonderful place to visit.

"Feed the birds, Tupence a bag"

Of course I have used one of my own photos to capture the moment.
I would not dare attempt this composition without a reference.
I have tried to capture the panic of the young woman has she shares the bird food with these venetian pigeons.
Not exactly Mary Poppins is it?
More like Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds".

Venice

I must admit that I do enjoy painting Venice.
Though perhaps my blog has too many venice scenes.
It is the easy solution for me to choose Venice to paint today, although I do wonder if I am in my comfort zone to much.
Each day inspiration is my biggest hurdle (what shall I paint today).
I am sure that is the same for everybody.

Piccadilly London
My apologise for not posting for a while.
This painting is a view of piccadilly, London.
The horse statues on the left are in a fountain of water at the entrance to an hotel which I am afraid I cant remember the name of. I think it adds some interest to the composition.
I hope you like this one.

I hope all bloggers out there have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Northern Heritage
Today watercolour shows a scene from the past. Sadly alot of our architecture as dissappeared with town modernisation. Using reference from an old B+W photo I have tried to recreate the atmoshere of the time. Done on full imperial paper, this was painted rapidly to maintain the looseness but to suggest detail were possible.

A Northern Town
Last night I demonstrated my watercolour techniques at Dewsbury Art Society. A lovely audience who encouraged my improvisation of a Northern Town Scene. Having painted this scene before "Market Day", I decided to introduce horses and cart and at the request of a viewer an old penny farthing. Can you see it? Any ideas for a title.

Venice
I`m getting ready for a solo exhibition at Art Decor Gallery Whalley on the 18th March. I am introducing some larger image sizes (full imperial) 30" x 22". I quite like getting the the bigger brushes out for this size of work. Keeping it loose can be my dilemma and its always tempting to fiddle with detail. Venice again!!!!! ah well, " paint what you enjoy" thats my moto.

Waiting in the wings
Its some while since last posting on my blog so I hope you will forgive my neglect.
I have some what cheated with this composition by putting two photos I took of one model together. The young woman kindly posed for our art society some time ago. That is the beauty of photography has a reference. Perhaps the purists would frown, but I will resort to any inspirational reference for my fix.

Venice in watercolour 2
Its time I tried another short video clip. You may have already gathered from some of my blog paintings that I enjoy painting busy scenes with figures. This painting is one of my favourite subjects..what else but Venice. I hope you find it interesting.
