Dubrovnik

This is busy scene within the old city walls of Dubronik, Croatia.
It is a beautiful old city and thankfully it is being carefully restored after the Bosnia War.
Why do we never learn from the mistakes of the past.

Hi Trevor,
It looks like a small corner of Venice, Dubrovnick is a breathtaking beautiful city with a lot of history. I am glad to see people are busy as ever there, as it was in bad shape after last war. Croatia has a lot of gems.

hi Lingard,it isnt the first time i came to visit your work and admire it.watercolours is a tricky tecnique , to work so well with it given the right nocion of light and shadow must to take time, i apreciate the way you do it.
about learn the mistakes of past... you right, but it is good to know the power of people to rebild the beaut.
in 2007 i spent 6 months in London studing, and then i traveled visiting many english tonws (i didnt go to yours), but i got amaized whit the way everything was reconstructed .
many people died at the war , but the madness is never strong enough to destroy the life and beaut .
i love your country and people, was the best thing in my life.
if one day you visit my blog ,would be a honnor , i have painted for more than 12 years, but england (arquiteture , people ,landscapes) had a definitive influence on my work .
thanks.

Beautiful painting. So full of color and life and light. Reminds me of Sargent's watercolors of venice.

Beautiful job, Trevor. Liz is right, it does remind me of Sargent as well. Looks like you were there on a nice sunny day.

Trevor Lingard said...

Hello Edward
It is so good to hear from you again.
Yes..it was a very hot day. Infact unbearable. I thought of a plein air painting at the time, but it would have been impossible for me. I resorted to a photo for reference.
Thank you again

Lovely painting, Trevor, and of particular interest to me as I've just booked a flight to Croatia later in the year. We're flying to Split, but haven't made plans beyond that yet.

Yes, the people are busy, but the use of blue calms the building for a perfect backdrop. I really like the palette choices here. Nice work.

I like your controlled style of using minimal brush strokes and complimentary colors in muted tones. You work proves that less is more works well with this type of subject.
