I had to take a rare trip to London last weekend and whilst there visited the National Gallery to see some wonderful inspiring works of art. I took my painting gear but decided photography was my only way to get as much information I could, before travelling back up to the North of England the same day. This painting, which is still wet as I post, is of course Piccadilly. There were many people sitting on the steps which surrounds Eros statue. I have tried to capture the atmosphere of the day but I think it lacks the usual hustle and bustle of traffic.

Love this painting, Trevor! From the saving of the whites to the massing of the darks and the marvelous color palette... a very good composition.
Hi Dean
Your comments give me much satisfaction and are very much appreciated.

I love this one too, Trevor - you really captured the atmosphere and I really like the scale (greatness)of the buildings compared to the people. Wonderful job!
Trevor, I have seen your comments pop up here and there, but I've never come to visit. Shame on me. Your work is simply fascinating to me. It's very good. I have never attempted your style, but you may inspire me. Like you, I have difficulty in painting from imagination...so I seldom do it and rarely ever pleased with the results...when it comes to a photogenic memory, my brain forgot the film. Stop by and visit anytime.
Hello Edward
Your comments are very much appreciated. It gives me much encouragement.

Looks like it's bustling to me! I visited Picadilly in 1971...I'll bet it's changed a bit!

Absolutely perfect! I really like this one, Trevor, you have captured the light and the balance of looseness with detail is just right especially the buildings - really draws you into the painting.
I envy your trip - I enjoy visiting the National Gallery but do not get to London as often as I like. Great idea to take photographs and work on the paintings when you get back because your memory of the moment is also captured. Thanks for sharing.

Marvelous. Your control of perspective is impressive.
Thank you Jala.
I am painting what I enjoy at the moment. Pushing boundaries have been my priority of late at a price, but a comfort zone like this, for me, is needed now and again.
Kind Regards

I love your London scenes. I spent a year in London in 1965/66 and loved it. Have been back to visit a number of times. The colors you use capture the atmosphere and the vibe of this wonderful city.
