Grandaughter Ella

This is my darling grandaughter ella. She asked for a portrait of herself this week and when she saw it said "its very nice grandad but I dont think my friends will recognise me from it". How polite can a child be. I have to say the colours are quite garish on the pc compared to the original. However I am quite pleased with it.
She is so special to us.

Terrific portrait Trevor, you excel at painting the figure. You’ve captured that smiling child’s good will that they cannot hide from their faces.

Hi Stephen
Cheers mate for your encouragement.
A childs smile says so much.

Oh my Trevor, you must have had your children when you were 12! Her sensitivity is surely from your side of the family. I just love her blue eyes and her darling expression.

Trevor, This is such a gorgeous painting! Your composition and color work hand in hand. What I love most is your brush strokes.

Trevor Lingard said...

Hi Douglas
That gives me great encouragement and much appreciated.

I love how loose and fun the brush strokes are! Composition is spot on too. Sometimes the little ones are our biggest critics!

I enjoyed your blog and intend to keep up to date with your postings.
All the best.

I have found that children and non-artists make the best critiquers. They can be so brutally honest and blunt!

Also this is a very good stylization of a children portrait, not typical to what you normally see. the fleshy texture reminds me of lucian freud but here the piece has a loving feeling. it comes through.
