The Look

I think its time to put away the oil paintings and concentrate on some watercolours for my next exhibition. Its always a busy time preparing , but I feel deflated at the moment!!!
Perhaps the winter months have taken there toll. I need to be lifted.

This is my favorite, so far! Just love the look on her faces, so expressive. More, please!

Hello Carol
You are so kind.
I am struggling at the moment with self confidence and self esteem so your comments give me much encouragement.
Kind Regards

Don't most great artists go through tough times Trevor? I'm sorry you're going through yours right now. I think the fact you have questions and doubts some times makes you want to always work to better your craft. I think artists who are sensitive feel the dark and cold just as intensely as they bask in the light and warm. I'm thinking positive thought for you.

I forgot to write that I was studying your painting before I read your post. I love the way the viewer can read this so many ways. Is she interested in someone in her peripheral vision? Is she shy and self conscience and wondering if she is having tea correctly? Is she about to take her last sip or is this a newly poured cup and she demurely blowing on it so it is cooler to drink. So much in just a captured snippet of life.

Hello Sheila
Your words are comforting and appreciated.
You have amazing observation of character and is nicely worded. I wish I could convey myself in such a way.
Kind Regards

now now... don't be so hard on an artist that I adore. I would rather have your gift of use of color and composition than the gift of post writing gab. Go and buy one of my favorite artists a new brush or something. Maybe he'll something on the way to inspire him for another painting.

One more thing and then I'll shut up. Why don't you create something that reflects this mood you'r ein right now. Embrace it and throw it onto canvas. Seeing it in front of you while your create it, may give it less power. I know myself included will be able to relate to what you're going through.

You may have the winter blahs, but I think this painting is lovely. I particularly like the way it is cropped and I agree with Carol and Sheila on all counts. There is a definite mystery to this lady.

Trevor, I am sorry you are feeling down, it is surprising to me that you, with so much talent, should have moments of self doubt. I feel it always but that's because I don't know what I'm doing! I think these cold dark months do not help (roll on Spring).

When I want to lift my spirits I get out the paints... it always helps. It would certainly help a whole lot more if I could produce anything half as good as yours.

There is not one of your paintings I do not like. This one has an air of mystery which I love.

Stay positive and keep painting, your artwork encourages so many (me included).
Best wishes
Sharon

This is good work Trevor! I can't think of anyone else that embraces watercolour and oil so completely. You should experiment in crossing the two. Ooh, even I want to try that now! I've added a link to your blog from mine by the way. It's nice to know you!

Hi Mark
Cheers for giving me a boost.
Crossing the two sounds interesting, but I think I`m a bit to long in the tooth.
Best Regards

Another beautiful piece, Trevor. Winter... boy, do I relate to those emotions, especially during the dark days! You're not alone. Your art encourages other people, and even your art is only a part of who you are. Blessings.

Hello Astrid
Thank you for returning my contact with you. Please forgive me but I am afraid I cannot speak or read your language. I can make out a few words and I hope you can understand mine. Your work is superb.
Perhaps there may be somebody who can interperate this message for me.
Kind Regards

Hey Trevor,
I found your blog through Rob Carey’s blog. These are terrific paintings, I enjoy your work a great deal. I can relate to the winter time blues, I have to paint while sitting in my truck these days which always draws suspicious onlookers because I’m a lefty and I sit in the passenger seat. Whenever I’m feeling stuck over my work I've always switched directions. Maybe that’s not the best thing to be doing but it successfully gets me motivated again. After awhile I usually return to my original intentions. I’m going to add myself to your followers.

This is lovely Trevor but I do like your oils too. It's January, the sun shone here today for the first time in about a week. The temperature, however, was minus 15! It is hard to find our motivation in such trying times.

Hello Sarah
Its good to hear from you. Thank you for visiting my blog and your support. My mother was brought up in Saskatchuanfrom the age of 4 to 15 before the second world war. I am sure I have heard her mention your state. Her relatives were pioneers and we still have some there, but I have never met them. Perhaps one day.
All the best and do keep warm.
